The Battle of Sherrifmuir 13th November 1715
The Battle of Sherrifmuir was to be a very controversial and unexpected outcome for both armies. The Jacobites were mustering with their chiefs 12.000 men strong in order to declare James Francis Edward Stuart, King of Scotland under the command of John Erskine, 6th Earl of Marr. The government troops were 6.000 men strong led by John Campbell, second Duke of Argyll under the Command of King George to try and crush the Jacobites at six o'clock the morning of the battle on November 13. The Jacobite army was roused and even still dark quickly and efficiently formed into two lines on the flat ground above Kinbuck facing Dunblane. They waited for the enemy.
